ShambaJijini Summit
16th to 31st of October 2021
Chloe Humphreys
"For us it is really important trying to find this co-existence in urban areas, between the needs of the natural world and the needs of the human world."
Chloe Humphreys is the Director and Lead Designer of The Landscape Studio, an internationally recognised landscape design studio with offices in East Africa and Spain. The studio’s ethos is careful design that is sensitive to the projects sites and clients desires, balancing both the functional and the aesthetic. We work on projects all over East Africa and Europe, ranging from conservation & ecological restoration projects, educational projects - schools, universities etc, private houses, hotels, large development projects and parks.
In the interview Chloe takes us to 3 projects sites in Nairobi, Sarit Center, Junction Mall and Mombasa Road, to explain their landscape design and all the thoughts behind. Which species is the most suitable one in the context of Sarit Center? Which indigenous plants would have been growing here, in the specific soils and environments. How to best balance the needs of a commercial center and the environment? It is such a thoughtful and sensitive design process!
